Switching to Fuelio? Import your data from other apps and CSV files
Yes, you can bring your history with you. Fuelio reads CSV files (the format Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice use), so you can import your fill-ups, costs and vehicles from a spreadsheet, or from another fuel log app once its data is in the Fuelio layout.
Import and export are free in Fuelio. Many fuel tracking apps charge you to export your own data or to import it somewhere else. We think your fuel log and mileage log belong to you, so there is no fee, no account and no lock-in. You can also export your data at any time.
The quick way: prepare a CSV file and import it
- Download the sample file and open it in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice.
- Replace the example rows with your own fill-ups, keeping the column headers as they are. The file has separate sections for the vehicle, the fuel log, your cost categories and your costs.
- Check the date format. The vehicle section has an ImportCSVDateFormat column (for example
yyyy-MM-dd). Your dates must be written in exactly that format. - Save the file as CSV.
- Import it in Fuelio:
Android
Go to Settings → Backup (Import/Export options) and choose Import CSV.
iOS
Open Fuelio's settings and choose Import CSV.
If the app says the file is not in the right format, or some lines are missing, the cause is usually a date or number in the wrong format. Email us the file and we will find the error.
Tip: to see the exact layout Fuelio expects, add one fill-up in the app, export a CSV and open it. Copy that structure for the rest of your data.
Importing from another app
Every app exports its data a little differently, so there is no single button that works for all of them. Here is what you can do today:
- Export from the old app, then reshape the file. Most apps can export a CSV or spreadsheet. Open it next to the Fuelio sample file and move the columns across: date, odometer, fuel amount, price, full tank. A spreadsheet is enough for this, and it usually takes a few minutes.
- Try the Fuelio Converter. It is an open-source tool made by our users that converts files from similar apps to the Fuelio format: Fuelio Converter.
- Ask us. Send the file to [email protected] and tell us which app it came from. We will take a look and tell you what to change, and it is often a quick fix.
What we are working on
The open-source converter does the job, but we want importing to be easier. We are working on a solution inside the app, so you can pick the app you are coming from and import its file directly.
If you want to help, we would love to hear from you:
- Using another fuel log app? Tell us which one at [email protected].
- Have an export file we can test with? Send it to us. The more real files we see, the better the importer will be. Remove anything personal first if you prefer, such as notes or location columns. We only need the structure and a few rows.
We read every email and will help you move your data over.
